Vorige week maandag kondigde Itella, de Finse PTT, aan dat het postzegels zou uitbrengen met afbeeldingen van Tom of Finland, de beroemde van homo-erotische tekenaar (Touko Laaksonen, 1920-1991). Dat nieuws was nog maar amper wereldkundig gemaakt, of tegenstanders startten een petitie en eisen dat Itella de homo-erotische postzegels niet publiceert.
Initiatiefnemers van de Thrifty Finn vinden de postzegels ‘esthetisch onplezierig’ en ‘van geen culturele waarde’. De tegenstanders vinden dat Itella in de toekomst thema’s moet kiezen waarop het hele land trots kan zijn. ‘Wij willen niet dat Finland wordt voorgesteld als thuisland en ‘uitvalsbasis’ voor homo-erotische thema’s.’ Het bericht dat Niina Sormunen de initiatiefneemster zou zijn, is onjuist, zoals reacties op dit bericht melden. Zij reageerde zelf: ‘Ik heb de Petitie alleen maar vertaald!’ Mijn fout: er stond inderdaad (vertaald): ‘volgens een vertaling door Sormunen van de petitie (…)’. Mijn excuses!

Hi! I think you got it wrong. I’m not the one responsible for the petition againts the stamp, I just translated the petition for Jezebel. I’m ALL for the stamps and for the initiative Tahdon 2013, which would grant gay and lesbians the right to marry. The petition Tahdon 2013, which I signed too, reached over 160 000 signatures and is right now in the parliament’s consideration.
