Het wordt dringen op de Amsterdamse Canal Parade, zaterdag 2 augustus 2008 (update 2009: klik hier). Veel homo’s ergeren zich aan het extravagante karakter (dat is ook af te lezen aan de poll in de rechterkolom), maar hetero’s lijken in de rij te staan om eraan deel te nemen. Het is al jaren niet te overzien dat er steeds meer not-gay boten meevaren, van drankmerken, banken, gemeenten en radio/tv omroepen. Laatste bericht: burgemeester Cohen van Amsterdam vaart voor het eerst mee: als passagier op de gemeenteboot met partijgenoten, wethouders Carolien Gehrels en Tjeerd Herrema en ambtenaren van de gemeente Amsterdam. Minister Plasterk (PvdA) vaart ook voor het eerst mee: in een regeringsboot.

Yep, I will be in A’dam, if only to attend one of the last real homo fuck parties that’s still held there.
Anyway, one reason to stay away is that for the first time police is allowed to be present on the boats to celebrate in uniform! I’m not a uniform fetishist, you see, and I don’t understand why their argument that part of the force is present there to work, i.e. offer us some security, is not valid anymore.
Is that why we now have 2 ministers and the Amsterdam mayor in the parade? Who invited them, or did they invite themselves? Did they do such a fantastic job to secure the liberties we fought for over the past 50 years? Do they assist us in keeping queer culture alive in Amsterdam? Did they secure our tolerant climate where artists can expriment in piece and quite? Where we can organise parties in a secure way we ourselves can accept? Did they take their job, to keep our streets safe from religious fanatic agression, serious from the start?
