Ellen Schippers praat over haar nieuwe tentoonstelling ‘Frauensehnsucht about Art&Gender’, die in april 2010 plaatsvindt. De voertaal is Engels (bron: persbericht).

Frauensehnsucht is about the contradiction between image and authenticity and about the desire to escape from stereotypical patterns. She will illustrate her lecture with Video’s of her work. Ellen Schippers was educated in textile art, in performance-art and video in Amsterdam and the Hague. She is a member of the Artist Society Arti et Amicitiae.

She creates exhibitions with video-installations. Her work is dramatic and compelling because she makes use of theatrical resources. The visitor makes a journey through a space of which every inch is filled with mysterious images, sound, music and poetry.  Schippers work relates to gender, stereotypical female images and ideals of beauty. She strips these selfmade images: by inflating and deconstructing them, she is revealing the emotions that are hidden behind these images.

Bianca du Mortier, curator of the Rijksmuseum: ‘Ellen Schippers does not fear to play with taboos and fantasies, either. This play with feelings and physical appearance is what makes her work so powerful’.
